Gravity Changes Direction into Analytics, Platform, and Conv.io

Gravity, formerly Blue Rover Labs, seems to be on a mission to find the the right market fit. Initially, the company launched as a place to start and follow aka orbit conversations on a variety of topics.

Recently the company has pivoted into three areas:

  • Gravity.com is now a corporate home pointing to each area of expertise. The community component now resides on convo.io
  • Insights is now a more prominent mention of forum analytics both freemium and premium – 1st sign of revenue
  • API, Apps, and more – no link or examples yet

The initial launch of the community on Gravity could have been a prototype and testing of the company’s ability to mine data from a disparate set of conversations both on site and offsite via the insight product. At this point our initial thoughts are panning out. Gravity has intentions of eventually creating a platform that can serve advertisements across the web based on the interest graph of users on Gravity and the sites that have implemented the insight product.

The biggest question in our mind is how will Gravity grow so that the volume of interest graph data and the volume of users becomes significant? With a significant portion of the $10M in funding still available they have time to figure this out or raise a Series B round. A partnership with Crowdgather, or outright acquisition would rapidly speed up the collection of interest data and the volume of users. Competition in the interest graph is fierce from Hunch and GetGlue. God speed Gravity!
