Smog city might be moving to the Cloud, but privacy & security advocates are concerned that Los Angeles might become the next Twittergate.

The City of Los Angeles is planning to join Washington DC, Motorola, and Genentech in using Google’s services to store their internal data & public records. The goals are to decrease costs and increase access speeds to the information via Google’s search technology.

Some groups are raising concerns about the move, especially after the recent Twittergate data-privacy scandal. But data services for large clients is a big and lucrative market for Google and they certainly have a financial interest in making sure there are no security issues.
